Wexford is a county in the Republic of Ireland and is situated in the southeast coast of the island of Ireland. The county forms part of the province of Leinster and is known as a great marine county. The population of the county is in excess of 131,000 with the main town being Wexford itself.

The name of the county is taken from the old Norse language of the Vikings when they invaded southern Ireland. Translating from the Norse for ‘Inlet of the Mud-Flats’ (Waesfjord).
An interesting fact about the county is that the beaches of Curracloe where used in the opening sequences of the film ‘Saving Private Ryan’, which won academy awards. The beaches are some of the finest in Ireland.
